Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify two relevant causes—students’ perception that science is difficult and the cost of university study—and briefly mention a possible effect: fewer scientists. However, the response addresses the task only partially. The effects on society are not explained beyond this single consequence, and there is no discussion of how a reduced science workforce might affect areas such as healthcare, technology, or economic development. The causes also need clearer explanation and relevant examples; for instance, the claim about expensive degrees is not connected to specific social consequences. The response is substantially below the required minimum length, which limits how fully you can develop both parts of the question. Aim to explain each cause and trace at least two effects on society.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting causes, and a concluding point about the number of scientists. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Due to this fact,” and “Consequently” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the overall progression is limited: both causes are placed in one paragraph, while the effects are not developed as a separate, clear part of the answer. Some links are difficult to follow, particularly “the surging inflimation rate also proves to be another reason,” because the relationship to the main argument is unclear. Organise the essay into distinct paragraphs for causes and effects, and use clear topic sentences and references so each point builds logically on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “higher studies,” “science degrees,” “middle class population,” and “STEM major.” This gives the response a basic range relevant to the subject. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand: “pehnonmena,” “difficulity,” “inflimation rate,” and “populatiuon” appear to be intended as different words, but are unclear as written. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “opt Art as their major” and “less number of students not having Science as their major.” Use accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “choose an arts degree,” “inflation,” and “decline in science enrolment” would make your ideas clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a cause-and-effect construction beginning “Due to this fact” and a sentence starting “even after spending…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. For example, “they do not choosing science degrees” has an incorrect verb form, while “the world end up having” lacks subject–verb agreement. The opening also needs an article and clearer sentence construction: “individual tends to opt…” should be revised to “individuals tend to choose…”. Punctuation spacing is inconsistent, with missing spaces after several full stops and commas. Practise accurate verb patterns, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
