Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the central issue and attempt to give causes and effects, mentioning the difficulty of science, study costs, limited access to good teachers, and students choosing arts subjects. However, the task is addressed only minimally: the causes are difficult to distinguish, and the effects on society are not clearly explained. The comments about companies, money, and a strong economy are too unclear to show a specific consequence of fewer science graduates. The response also contains 193 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough space to develop relevant points with examples. To improve, explain two causes and then trace clear social effects, such as shortages of medical or engineering professionals, with a specific example for each.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening, cause-and-effect sections, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “firstly,” “secondly,” and “on the other hand” show an effort to guide the reader. However, ideas are not arranged coherently: “on the other hand” does not clearly introduce effects, and the discussion shifts between student interest, arts subjects, companies, and the economy without showing how these points connect. Several sentences run together, making relationships between ideas hard to follow. Use separate paragraphs for causes and effects, give each paragraph one clear main idea, and connect each supporting example directly to that idea. A brief, relevant conclusion should then summarise the main points.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “science subjects,” “parents,” “teachers,” “study expensive,” and “economice strong,” so the general topic can be recognised. However, the vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, and inaccurate word choice or spelling frequently makes meaning difficult to understand. For example, “science study has difficult” and “not interest in the science subject” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “their dream his only dream” is also unclear. Build a small set of accurate topic phrases, such as “the cost of tuition,” “a shortage of qualified science teachers,” and “limited career prospects,” and practise using them in complete sentences. Check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to form longer sentences using connectors such as “because,” “so,” and “while,” as well as some simple statements. However, grammatical control is weak: errors are frequent and sometimes distort meaning. Examples include “science subjects has very hard,” “student are not choosing,” and “some country student are not interest,” where agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction are inaccurate. Articles and plurals are also often missing or incorrect, and punctuation does not reliably separate ideas. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one clear subordinate clause. For example: “Science courses can be demanding, so some students choose other subjects.” Proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement and complete verb forms.
