Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies a relevant effect of low science enrolment: a shortage of scientists, agricultural experts and researchers, which may make a country dependent on others for medicines. However, the task asks for causes as well as effects, and the causes are only touched on indirectly. The paragraph about parents once forcing children to study a chosen subject does not clearly explain why students today avoid science, and it is not developed with a specific reason or example. The effects are more clearly stated but remain brief. The conclusion recommends promoting science without adding support. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Develop distinct causes—such as perceived difficulty, cost or limited career appeal—and explain their consequences with relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However” and “In conclusion” help show the intended structure. The effects paragraph also moves from a shortage of specialists to reliance on other countries and imported medicines. However, overall progression is weakened because the first body paragraph does not clearly connect its discussion of parental choice to the question of declining science enrolment. “However” introduces effects without a clear contrast, and “For instance” is followed by a broad claim rather than a specific example. Some links are mechanical or awkward, and the conclusion repeats the recommendation rather than drawing together the causes and effects. Make each paragraph’s main point explicit and connect examples directly to it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “scientists,” “researchers,” “imported” and “resources,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions make the writing less clear, such as “not enough amount of students,” “agricultural expects” and “ground roots of our ecosystem.” Repeated general terms such as “subjects,” “situation” and “science” also restrict precision. Some phrases appear to be direct or awkward combinations, including “professional growth and skill developement.” Aim for accurate collocations and more specific language: for example, describe a “shortage of science graduates” or “dependence on imported medicines.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would also make the intended meaning easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “Because our generation is not interested in learning science subjects” and a reason introduced by “because” in the medicines example. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “There are multiple factors which causes this situation happened,” where the verb pattern and agreement are faulty, and “Nowday's there have many pathways,” which has an incorrect sentence structure. There are also problems with articles, plurals and punctuation, as in “Science is an important as IT” and the comma and full stop placement around “Therefore.” Practise building accurate sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
