Student answer (Band 6.0)

In various regions, studying science is not preferred by students particularly in university.

The following essay will discuss the reasons of this phenomenon and it's impact on society with relevant example.

There are various reasons of not choosing science at university, the foremost cause is it consumes alot of time compared with other subjects. Usually, science degree takes 4-5 years to complete and with only basic degree there are less chance of getting a employment. Therefore, further studies are necessary to built a better future. For instance, I have completed my bsc nursing which was four years course, followed by one year internship. Then i started working with very basic pay. Evenafter, having six years of clinical experience, its necessary for me to have masters degree in order to achieve good position in my field. In addition, sometime its costly for students who are really interested in science. Moreover, science subjects required full dedication, concentration and support from family and many students lacks one of them that is why they don not preferred studying science at university.

This phenomenon have great impact on society as less manpower in hospitals and other departments of science, which leads to compromise on patients care by not providing high quality of care. For instance, in Europe countries, there are huge shortage of nurses, which leads to delay treatment of those country's people as they get doctors appointment after 6-7 months.

In conclusion, the major reason of not choosing science subject is consuming more time with high cost of tuition fee. The patient care is compromised by delaying treatment not able to provide high quality care as lack of employee.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for low uptake, including the time and cost of study and the demands of science courses, and describe a social effect through staff shortages and delayed care. Your nursing experience is relevant and gives the explanation a concrete example. However, the effects discussion is much less developed than the causes: it focuses almost entirely on healthcare, without explaining wider consequences for scientific research, technology, or other services. Some claims, such as the link between a shortage of nurses and appointments delayed for six or seven months, would be stronger with clearer explanation or support. Develop the social effects more fully and connect each example explicitly to the shortage of science graduates.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to causes, effects, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main parts of the answer, and signposts such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” make the direction easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the causes paragraph contains several ideas in one long sequence, and links such as “Therefore” and “Moreover” sometimes connect points mechanically rather than showing their precise relationship. The effects paragraph is brief, while the conclusion repeats the same point without adding a synthesis. Group related causes more clearly and use referencing or transitions to make the links between ideas explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “science degree,” “internship,” “clinical experience,” “manpower,” and “high quality of care.” The personal example also allows you to use relevant terms from nursing and employment. However, the range and control are uneven, with several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems: “reasons of not choosing,” “a employment,” “compromise on patients care,” and “lack of employee.” These phrases can make the intended meaning less natural or precise. Aim to learn common academic collocations and check word forms and spelling, especially in repeated key phrases. More precise terms for workforce shortages and consequences would also help you express the social impact with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a cause-and-effect structure with “Therefore” and a longer sentence explaining the demands of science study. The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “There are various reasons of not choosing science at university, the foremost cause is…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, while “This phenomenon have great impact” has errors in subject–verb agreement and article use. In “many students lacks one of them,” the verb does not agree with its subject. Work on building accurate complex sentences and checking agreement and articles; clearer sentence boundaries will make your reasoning easier to follow.
