Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, insufficient students are selecting science related subjects at university. This trend can be attributed to several factors and it may have bad effects on society.I would like to explain this view in detail.

I would like to explain the causes of it. The most important cause of it is that people have no knowledge about the benefits of science field. They think that science related fields are less paying professions. Additionally, today the world has become very advanced. There is popularity of arts. Many arts group companies persuade people of all over the world to adopt this field. They offer many benefits. The most important benefit is that it is the most cost giving.Because of this, people are moving very fastly towards arts relating subjects.Their parents are forcing them to study arts subjects for the sake of more money.

In contrast, I would like to explain the effects of this view on society. The most vulnerable effect of this is that amount people graduating in science field will decrease. We will have to face the shortages of medical graduated people,Docters. This will be a great difficulty for us to face.Additionally, we will face the shortages people who help in time of accidents such as first aids. Also, people will have to face shortages of successful medical teams in time of spreading of harmful viruses.

In conclusion,I strongly support this view because it may have bad effects on society. If people know the benefits of adopting medical fields they would continously make attempts to adopt this field because medical professions are most paying and cost giving for graduated people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question by proposing causes—limited awareness of science careers and the appeal of arts—and describing possible social effects, especially shortages of doctors and medical teams. These ideas are relevant, but the causes are not fully explained: for example, the claim that arts companies persuade people to choose arts is unclear and unsupported. The effects focus almost entirely on healthcare, so the wider consequences for society are not explored. Your conclusion also shifts towards recommending medical careers rather than clearly summarising the causes and effects. Develop each main point with a clear explanation or example, and keep the conclusion aligned with the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. This makes the overall arrangement coherent. You also use signposts such as “Additionally,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” to show the direction of the discussion. However, some linking is mechanical or does not express the relationship accurately: “In contrast” introduces effects rather than a contrasting view, and repeated phrases such as “I would like to explain” interrupt progression. Some references are unclear, including “this view” and “it.” Use topic sentences that state the paragraph’s main idea, then connect explanations and examples more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “science related subjects,” “professions,” “shortages,” and “medical teams.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make parts difficult to interpret. “The most cost giving” does not clearly convey the intended meaning, while “arts group companies” and “first aids” are unsuitable word choices. There are also spelling errors such as “Docters” and “continously.” Aim for precise collocations and check spelling; for instance, distinguish between well-paid careers and costly fields, and use established terms such as “healthcare professionals” and “first-aid providers.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “If people know the benefits … they would …,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “insufficient students” where a different determiner is needed, “amount people graduating,” and “shortages of medical graduated people.” The conditional in the conclusion also mixes forms: “If people know … they would continuously make attempts” would be clearer with consistent conditional forms. Several sentences run together, such as “They offer many benefits. The most important benefit is that it is the most cost giving.Because…” Practise accurate sentence boundaries and build complex sentences from reliable patterns.
