Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, students can choose their study subjects according to their choices. There is an opinion that in many countries few students are choosing to science study at university. I believe that its difficulty level and requries a lots of time are the main reasons and can also have negative impact on society.
To begin with, there are several reasons why students does not select science subjects at university. The forst and farmost reason is science subjects are difficult. There are subjects like chemistry, biology and physics requires strong academic skills. Students may find these subjecta are more challenging and stressful. Secondly, the various others careers options are more attractive. Students are more interested in business, arts and IT management beacause they find them less difficult than science. . for Instance, manu students may choose business or computer because they can get a good job in shorter time. These fields may offer better salaries and more job opportunities. Consequently, students does not choose science subjects in universities.
On the other hand, this trend may negatively impact on society. Primary, it may lead to shorter skilled professionals in society. Society may face a shortage of doctors, scientists and engineers. Hospitals and research centres may struggle to fing qualified workers. This can affect public services. Furthermore, it may also lead to slow scientists development. Fewer science graduate means less scientific development. For example, if fewer students study medical science, there may be fewer researchers to develop trreatments for serious diseases.
In conclusion, the difficulty level and attraction of others subject are the main reason for this trend. As a result, society may face a shortage of skilled professionals and slower scientific progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the question and gives a clear position: students avoid science because it is difficult and other fields seem more attractive, while society may face professional shortages and slower scientific progress. The examples of doctors, engineers and medical researchers make the effects relevant. This meets the core requirements well. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that business or IT offers better salaries and more opportunities could be linked more explicitly to students’ choices, and the social consequences could be developed beyond staffing and research. The response therefore shows some of the fuller explanation expected at the next level, but development is uneven. Explain the cause-and-effect links in greater depth and support them with a more specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion that restates the main points. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Secondly,” and “Furthermore” help readers identify the stages of the argument. This is a sound foundation. However, some linking is mechanical or inaccurate: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the effects paragraph continues the discussion rather than opposing it, and “Primary” is not an appropriate sequencing marker here. The conclusion also repeats the introduction closely. To move further, use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas and connect examples more smoothly to the claims they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate its main ideas, including “academic skills,” “job opportunities,” “qualified workers,” and “scientific development.” It also attempts some less common expressions, such as “shortage of doctors, scientists and engineers.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision: “science study,” “shorter skilled professionals,” “slow scientists development,” “farmost,” and “trreatments.” Repetition of “students,” “science subjects,” and “society” also makes the writing less flexible. These errors do not prevent the overall message from being understood, but they keep vocabulary control below the next level. Build a bank of accurate academic collocations and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as “Students may find these subjects are more challenging and stressful” and the conditional example beginning “if fewer students study medical science.” The main argument remains understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “students does not select” and “Fewer science graduate means,” missing or incorrect articles and plurals, and faulty sentence construction in “There are subjects like chemistry, biology and physics requires…”. Punctuation is also uneven, including the stray full stop before “for Instance.” To progress, check agreement and sentence boundaries carefully, and practise building complex sentences with a clear subject and verb. More consistently accurate sentences would strengthen the range already attempted.
