Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address both causes and effects, identifying a lack of science teachers and concerns about future employment as causes, and shortages of doctors and science teachers as possible effects. However, these points are only briefly stated and are not clearly explained or supported with relevant examples. The response also shifts into recommendations, such as asking the government to provide “facilities,” rather than developing the causes and social effects in the question. The conclusion repeats this recommendation without summarising the main explanation. The response is 40 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop the ideas. Explain how each cause influences students’ choices and how shortages affect society, using a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Therefore” and “For instance” show attempts to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and several links are repetitive or do not express a clear relationship. For example, “Therefore, students not chosing science subjects than in future more problems face” is difficult to follow, while the final paragraph largely repeats the earlier recommendation. Build each paragraph around one clear point, then explain it in a logical sequence. Use fewer linking words, and make sure each one accurately signals the connection between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “students,” “science subjects,” “problems” and “chosing.” Some topic-relevant terms, including “doctors,” “science teachers” and “government,” help communicate the general subject. However, inaccurate word choice and spelling sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to understand, as in “save a loses” and “some facilities of science students.” Aim to use precise phrases for the task, such as “science graduates,” “career prospects” and “a shortage of qualified professionals.” Check spelling carefully, especially repeated key words, and learn common collocations as complete phrases. This will make your ideas clearer and reduce repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences using “because,” “so that” and “if,” but these structures are often faulty, and most sentences contain grammatical errors that can obscure meaning. For example, “students before chose are science subjects” has an unclear word order and verb form, while “it have more effects” shows an agreement error. Verb forms are also frequently inaccurate, as in “students should have choising” and “they were facing.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention too, particularly where several ideas are joined without a clear structure. Practise writing accurate simple sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time. Check subject–verb agreement, tense and verb patterns before submitting.
