Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the problem is described, the failed return attempt is explained, and a resolution is requested. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited by the repetitive nature of the writing and the lack of specific details (e.g., the nature of the damage or the date of purchase). While the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, the ideas are not fully extended, which keeps the response at a lower band level. To improve, ensure that each point is elaborated with more specific information to demonstrate a more comprehensive response to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the frequent use of 'And' at the beginning of sentences disrupts the flow. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by the repetitive phrasing. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'as a result' to connect your ideas more naturally and improve the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey the situation with precision. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'discribe' instead of 'describe,' 'jacke' instead of 'jacket,' and 'reasult' instead of 'result.' These errors are frequent and occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should focus on expanding your vocabulary related to shopping and customer service, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms. Using more precise terms would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with verb tenses ('I want to took it back'), sentence structure, and punctuation. Many sentences are fragmented or contain incorrect word order, such as 'If i doin an exchange or get my money back.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the errors are persistent and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives. Reviewing the rules for past tense versus present tense will also help reduce the number of errors in your writing.
