SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The plans below depicts present image of an airport site and how it will be redeveloped after one year.
Overall, there is much development shown in an airport site after one year. Priorly, airport site contains less number of gates as compared to number of gates in the future. Many advanced facilities will be added in the future.
In present, there are total eight gates but in future they are planning to increase the number of gates from eight to eighteen, which is a huge development. Check-in point is shifted from left towards right, cafe is also shifted from right corner to bottom place. image shows that walkway will be removed after one year. There will be much facilities going to be added in future such as atm , sky train and car hire. Atm will be added to assist people in case of forgetting money at home , to avoid stealing and for other urgent purposes. Sky train is also the part of their future plan and the last service i am going to mention, which they will add after re development is car hire.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the airport redevelopment, such as the increase in gates and the relocation of facilities. However, the response is weakened by the inclusion of irrelevant personal speculation, such as why an ATM is needed ('to assist people in case of forgetting money at home'). In IELTS Task 1, you must remain objective and only report the information provided in the diagrams. Additionally, the description of the layout changes could be more precise; for example, you mention the walkway will be removed, but you do not describe the new additions like the departures/arrivals areas or the new road layout clearly enough to achieve a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. While there is a basic logical flow, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in future' and 'there are'. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the general overview and the specific details could be smoother. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than jumping between different features of the map.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'huge development' and 'much facilities'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'Priorly' (which is not standard English) and 'bottom place'. To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary related to maps and changes, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', 'demolished', or 'integrated'. The repetition of simple words limits your ability to demonstrate a more sophisticated range of lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing, e.g., 'in present', 'image shows') and subject-verb agreement ('plans below depicts'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper capitalization or spacing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic article usage and verb tense consistency would significantly improve your accuracy.
