Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the expansion of gates, the relocation of facilities like the check-in and cafeteria, and the addition of new amenities. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks precision; for instance, describing changes as 'so many new thighs' is informal and vague. While the key information is presented, the description of locations is occasionally confusing, such as the reference to 'down side' or 'upper side', which lacks the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the overall expansion and modernization of the terminal, rather than just listing individual changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'Besides this' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. For example, the transition between the description of the gates and the check-in area is abrupt. The paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to group related information, such as separating structural changes from facility additions, to improve the overall progression of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication expected at higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and informal language, such as 'thighs' (likely a typo for 'things'), 'enlarge' (should be 'enlarged'), and 'care hire' (should be 'car hire'). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to maps and diagrams, such as 'relocated', 'extended', 'constructed', 'situated', and 'adjacent to', while ensuring that spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('it will increased', 'cafeteria are... were replace'), incorrect verb tenses ('are remain', 'new ATM machine were installed'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
