SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The diagrams illustrate the site of an airport how it is now and how it will look after renovation next year.
Overall, it is clear that in future more gates will be added to the airport as of now. Today the airport area is minimal which will be expanded and new things will also be added such as ATM, sky train, car hire and shops.
Looking at the plan, in todays time the there are only eight gates at the north side in which new gates will be developed from 8 to 18. Check-in area was situated at the west side in the departures and in future it will be relocated to the opposite side. Shops will also added in the departure between the security passport control and gates.
While a cafe is situated at right corner in the departures and also a new restaurant will be added at the right side in the arrivals and old cafe will be relocated at the left side of the departures gate. Car hire will be added newly at the right side of the arrivals gate. Security passport control and passport control customs have their own space where they remained still in the future also. New ATM will be located below the new restaurant.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the expansion of gates and the addition of new facilities like the sky train and car hire. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the relocation of the check-in area and the addition of new shops and restaurants. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions expansion, it could be more precise by highlighting the most significant structural changes. The description of the current versus future layout is generally accurate, though some details, such as the specific locations of the passport control, could be described with more clarity to help the reader visualize the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the changes. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from general expansion to specific facility changes. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'will be added' and 'at the right side'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and referencing techniques to connect sentences more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow the comparison between the two plans.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'relocated', and 'renovation' correctly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the reliance on 'added' and 'side'. There are also minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'in todays time' (should be 'currently') and 'new things' (which is too informal for an academic report). To reach a higher band, aim to incorporate more precise terminology related to spatial descriptions and architectural changes, such as 'situated', 'positioned', or 'integrated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Shops will also added' (missing 'be') and 'in the departure' (should be 'departures area'). There are also issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'at right corner' (should be 'at the right corner'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
