SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The plans represent the site of an airport now and how it will look after redevelopment next year.
Currently it has 8 gates walkaway in used. The chek in is in the left corner of the departure portion. While on the left end corner there is a cafe shop. It also had security passport control system. On arrival side whole portion is empty while there is only passport control customs. There is vacant portion at upper end.
After redevelopment massive changes will be seen. As there will be 18 gates as conpared to 8. Which means there will be addition of 10 new gates & it also has a Y shaped structure which is quite beautiful. The departure area will have 2 main gates first it had 1 only. It will also have a bag drop point on the left end corner and a cafe shop at just a distanceon same side. Chek in point will be shifted to right corner. At the upper end it will have same security passport control and the vacant portion will have shops with the terminals. The arrivals area will also show some changes as fisrt it was empty but now it will have cafe,ATM and cahr hiring point. While at the upper end there is passport control customs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the airport plans, including the increase in gates and the addition of new facilities. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. While the comparison between the current and future states is attempted, the reporting of features is occasionally disjointed, and the 'Y-shaped' structure is mentioned without clearly linking it to the overall layout. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear introductory overview that highlights the most striking transformation, such as the expansion of the terminal capacity and the diversification of passenger services.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into two main paragraphs, which helps to separate the 'now' and 'after' states. However, the progression of ideas within these paragraphs is sometimes choppy. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'at the upper end', 'on the left end corner'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to better guide the reader through the spatial changes. While the paragraphing is functional, the overall flow would benefit from a more sophisticated use of linking words to connect the various features of the airport layout more logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'massive changes will be seen' and 'there is only' are functional but lack precision. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'chek in', 'conpared', 'fisrt', and 'cahr hiring', which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to airport infrastructure, such as 'terminal expansion', 'passenger amenities', and 'reconfigured layout', while ensuring accurate spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the chek in', 'the departure portion') and verb tense consistency. For example, 'it also had security' should be 'it also has'. There are also issues with sentence fragments and punctuation, such as 'Which means there will be addition of 10 new gates & it also has a Y shaped structure'. Improving the control of basic grammar and reducing these slips would significantly enhance the clarity and quality of your writing.
