Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the changes to the walkway, gates, and facilities. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview of the most significant changes. While the prompt asks for a summary and comparison, the response reads more like a list of individual changes rather than a cohesive report. The mention of 'one door will be attached' is slightly inaccurate based on the visual evidence, which shows an increase in the number of doors. To improve, focus on grouping related changes (e.g., passenger flow vs. amenities) to provide a more sophisticated summary of the transformation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'In addition'). The transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the use of double periods and missing spaces after commas. While the overall progression is logical, the lack of varied linking words and the mechanical nature of the transitions prevent a higher score. Improving the flow between sentences would significantly enhance the readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes clearly. Words like 'refurbishment', 'substituted', and 'facilities' are used appropriately. However, there is a lack of variety, and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'inserted' for facilities or 'attached' for doors. The range is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations related to map descriptions, such as 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'integrated'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'walkway will substituted' (passive voice error), 'will be remained' (incorrect passive construction), and 'one door will be attached in both' (prepositional error). Punctuation is also a concern, with inconsistent spacing after punctuation marks and the use of double periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of passive voice constructions.
