Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the airport plans, such as the increase in gates and the addition of new facilities like the sky train and bag drop. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, professional structure. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the 'now' and 'next year' states is occasionally muddled by confusing sentence construction. To improve, ensure that you clearly separate the current layout from the future layout using distinct paragraphs and more precise comparative language to highlight the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks effective paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of information. The text is essentially one long block, which hinders readability. While there is an attempt at an overview, the transition between the current state and the future state is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'after development'. To reach a higher band, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the overview, and the detailed body paragraphs, and incorporate a wider range of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'main feature' and 'after development' are used multiple times, which reduces the sophistication of the report. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'walk away' instead of 'walkways' and 'give diagrams' instead of 'given diagrams'. To improve, try to use a more varied range of vocabulary related to spatial description and change, such as 'expanded', 'replaced', 'introduced', or 'reconfigured'. Focusing on accurate collocations will help convey your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'diagrams illustrates', 'it look') and article usage. Sentence structures are often run-on or fragmented, making the text difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with missing commas and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practice using complex sentences with relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety and accuracy to your writing.
