Student answer (Band 6.0)

The illustrate presents the next year redevelopment plans for a area of the airport.

The present gates of 8 are going to be developed into a much larger area with 18 gates, many new facilities are going to be added like ATM, skytrain, bag drop etc. Additionally more doors are going to be opened for departures and arrivals.

The new development plans shows new shops are going to be added in area after security check where people can explore and spend time waiting for their flights, Due to increase in many gates the current walkway will be transformed into a Sky train which would be in middle of all terminals.

Arrivals after development can hire cabs near departures and arrivals, if they lack the cash, they can get it from new nearby ATM, all of these will be opened in current empty space between Passport control customs and Arrivals, The present check-in will convert into a bag drop.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, such as the increase in gates and the addition of new facilities like the skytrain and shops. However, the overview is missing; a successful Task 1 response must include a clear summary of the most significant trends or changes. Furthermore, some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the description of the skytrain location and the flow of passengers. To improve, ensure you provide a clear introductory overview and focus on grouping information logically rather than listing features in a way that obscures the overall transformation of the site.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the description of shops and the skytrain is abrupt. There are also issues with referencing; phrases like 'in area after security check' lack necessary articles, and the connection between the new facilities and the existing layout is not always clearly signaled. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear reference to the map features would significantly enhance the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the main points. However, the range is limited and there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'The illustrate presents' (should be 'The illustration presents') and 'a area' (should be 'an area'). The use of 'bag drop' and 'skytrain' is appropriate for the context, but the overall lexical variety is somewhat restricted. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise descriptive language to explain the changes, such as 'expanded', 'transformed', or 'relocated', rather than relying on basic verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, there are missing articles ('a area', 'in middle of'), subject-verb agreement issues ('The new development plans shows'), and run-on sentences or comma splices ('...waiting for their flights, Due to increase...'). While the meaning is generally conveyed, these persistent errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, will help improve accuracy.
