Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given map illustrates the current blueprint of an airport along with how it would look after redevelopment in the upcoming year. At a glance,

it is seen that the airport would not only beccome more spacious but also would have more amenities after its resotration.

To begin with, currently there is a space for walkway which would be replaced by the sky train after its development. The space has been expanded due to the sky train. Follwed by walkway, comes the security passport control where the check-in is procceded. However, after the improvement, there would be shops, cafe and bag drop section along with the check-in counter. Besides this, there is a passport control customs which has no amenities that is why the facilities such as cafe, ATM and car hire section near the arrivals would be available after the development. Moreover, there are subsequently 8 gates which would be expanded upto the total 18 gates.

Overall, the airport will have far more space as compared to the current situation. In addition to that, advancing the amenities along with the number of gates would be most significant transition.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the airport plans, including the expansion of gates and the addition of new amenities. You successfully identified the key changes, such as the replacement of the walkway with a sky train and the increase in gate numbers from 8 to 18. However, the description of the layout is slightly confusing in places, particularly regarding the 'passport control' and 'arrivals' areas. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the 'before' and 'after' states for each specific zone to avoid ambiguity. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant changes, which is a positive aspect of your report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'In addition to that' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the phrase 'Follwed by walkway, comes the security passport control' is slightly awkward and disrupts the progression. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., using 'the former' or 'the latter') is used more precisely would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'amenities', and 'transition'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'beccome', 'resotration', 'Follwed', and 'procceded'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the report. To reach a higher band, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise collocations related to map description, such as 'situated to the north of' or 'undergone a significant transformation'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are, however, frequent grammatical slips, such as 'there is a space for walkway' (missing article), 'passport control customs which has no amenities that is why' (run-on structure), and 'upto' (should be two words). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy. Proofreading for small punctuation and spacing errors would also be beneficial.
