Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the increase in gates, the addition of a sky train, and the relocation of facilities. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, such as the overall expansion of the terminal building. While the student identifies specific details like the new car hire and ATM, the description is somewhat list-like rather than analytical. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just listing individual additions. The conclusion is also quite weak and repetitive, failing to synthesize the information effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To commence with', 'The most notable changes are'). There are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the list of new facilities feels like a series of disconnected points. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that ideas are grouped logically—perhaps by separating 'existing facilities' from 'proposed additions'—would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. Phrases like 'quite less' and 'more good' are imprecise and grammatically awkward. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'redevelopment', 'transformation', and 'passport control', the range is limited. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'made' and 'constructed'. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding repetitive, simplistic phrasing in favor of more descriptive, academic language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'the number of gates will be been increased' is incorrect, as is 'the travellers no longer walk and go'. There is a mix of simple and complex structures, but the complex ones often contain errors, such as 'how will it look' (should be 'how it will look'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces before periods and unnecessary spaces before commas. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage is necessary to improve the accuracy of the writing.
