Student answer (Band 6.0)

The map illustrates the remodeling of an airport projected to take place next year.

Overall, the airport will receive numerous advancements and reallocations of certain sectors in order to cater more people most efficiently by the introduction of sky trains, ATM, car hire, bag drop area, and an increased number of gates.

Access to the departure and arrival area will become more efficient by adding another entrance point. Moreover, space will be allocated to a baggage drop area in the departures room and the arrivals room will be extended to add a car hire for passengers and a new ATM will be setup right next to a new café. People leaving the city will have the option to buy amenities or souvenirs from the new shops after clearing the security passport control. Additionally, the route to the gates will now have a sky train rather than a walkway due to the add addition of the ten new gates.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response provides a clear overview of the main changes, such as the addition of the sky train and the expansion of gates. You successfully identified key features and made relevant comparisons between the current and future layouts. However, the report is slightly brief. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more specific detail on the spatial changes, such as the relocation of the check-in area or the specific shift in the layout of the departure lounge. While the main features are covered, a more comprehensive analysis of the spatial transformation would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, a summary paragraph, and a body paragraph detailing the changes. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'rather than' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is easy to follow, moving from general access points to specific internal facilities. To improve, ensure that paragraph breaks are used more effectively to separate distinct themes, such as separating the external access changes from the internal facility upgrades, which would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'remodeling', 'reallocations', and 'amenities'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'cater more people' (should be 'cater to more people') and 'setup' (which is a noun/adjective, whereas 'set up' is the verb). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations related to map descriptions—such as 'situated to the north of' or 'undergo a significant transformation'—would elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'due to the add addition of', which is a redundant error, and 'will be setup' (should be 'will be set up'). Punctuation is generally accurate, and the meaning is never obscured by these errors. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice constructions or relative clauses, with greater consistency and fewer minor errors.
