Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the airport plans, such as the addition of the bag drop, ATM, and sky train. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The student describes the changes but fails to provide a clear overview or a structured comparison of the layout changes. The tone is overly informal and subjective (e.g., 'the new infrastructure is far better'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus on objective reporting of spatial changes and ensure a clear summary paragraph is included to highlight the most significant transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; sentences are often disjointed, and the transition between the 'before' and 'after' descriptions is abrupt. The use of referencing is limited, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the changes. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'developement', 'perivous', 'enterns', 'infrastrusture', 'inhance', and 'enconvency'. The word choice is often imprecise or informal, such as 'car hair system' (likely meaning car hire) and 'old version'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the visual data with precision. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to maps and diagrams, such as 'extended', 'relocated', 'modernised', and 'constructed', while paying closer attention to accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the plan... illustrate'), missing articles ('the cafe', 'the ATM'), and incorrect sentence structure (e.g., 'car hair system also thee foe people service'). Punctuation is inconsistent, with many run-on sentences and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with almost no attempt at complex grammatical forms. Improving basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly raise your score.
