SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram presents the site of southwest airport now and how will it look next year after renovations. Looking at the diagram, it is apparent that the area of construction at the airport is about to increase after renovation as 10 more gates are added to the future plan.
In the front elevation, now it has two different gates, first for the departures and another for arrivals, which is going to be doubled for both by the end of the redevelopment. Moreover, the Check-in counter is going to be replaced by Bag drop area and shifted towards the right hand side of the departure hall by the next year, also Cafe is going to be shifted towards the right corner of the arrivals beside Passport control customs and a second Cafe is planned to setup at left corner near the departure gate.
The area at right corner near the arrival gate is allowed for the car hire service desk. Additionally, space between the Car hire and Cafe is allotted for the ATM machine. Furthermore, Sky train is to be made for travellers to reach their designated gates. In addition, there are shops arrange between sky train and security control area.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the increase in gates, the relocation of facilities, and the addition of new services like the sky train. However, the overview is somewhat limited; it focuses primarily on the number of gates rather than summarizing the broader transformation of the airport's layout. While the key changes are identified, the comparison between the 'now' and 'future' states could be more analytical. The description of the layout is generally accurate, but some details, such as the specific locations of the cafes, could be presented more clearly to help the reader visualize the spatial changes more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction followed by body paragraphs detailing the changes. There is a clear progression of ideas as you move from the front elevation to the specific facilities. You use some cohesive devices such as 'moreover', 'additionally', and 'furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise. For instance, the phrase 'the area of construction' is a bit vague. Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied referencing would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'elevation', and 'designated'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'is allowed for' instead of 'is designated for' or 'is allocated to', and 'is to be made' which is slightly unnatural in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of location-based descriptors and process-related verbs would help improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'how will it look' (should be 'how it will look') and 'Cafe is going to be shifted' (missing an article: 'a cafe' or 'the cafe'). Additionally, 'shops arrange between' should be 'shops are arranged between'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
