Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student provides a summary of the changes made to the Southwest Airport layout, highlighting key features before and after redevelopment. However, the response lacks sufficient detail and comparison of the main features. For instance, while mentioning the transformation of the walkway into a sky train, there could be more explanation of how this change improves passenger experience. Additionally, terms like 'basic facilities' could use more specificity. Overall, the student addresses the task but misses opportunities for deeper analysis, which affects the Task Achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The coherence and cohesion of the response are somewhat lacking. Although the student attempts to structure the response by separating observations about the pre- and post-redevelopment layouts, transitions between ideas are not smooth. Phrases like 'turning to the second delineate' feel abrupt and could benefit from clearer linking phrases. The use of conjunctions is minimal, and the paragraphing could be better utilized to enhance readability. Overall, while there is a logical flow, it needs more linking and clearer structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource demonstrates some effective vocabulary, such as 'rebuilding' and 'delineate', but there are several awkward or incorrect word choices that hinder clarity, such as 'elucidate the distinctions' and 'portray'. Phrases like 'eye-catching' should be more formal given the task's academic nature. The student does attempt to use varied vocabulary, but the inaccuracies and register inconsistencies limit the lexical resource score. More precise terminology should be utilized to describe the airport features and transformations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is reasonable, with proper sentence structures generally employed. However, there are several grammatical errors, most notably issues with article usage (e.g., "the provided map charts the elucidate the distinctions"). The use of comparative language, particularly when discussing the differences between the two airport layouts, lacks sophistication and accuracy. Additionally, some tense usage is inconsistent. Overall, while the student shows a reasonable range of grammar, the errors impact clarity and accuracy.
Overall feedback
The student provides a basic overview of the airport’s redevelopment, effectively identifying some key changes. However, to improve, focus on providing more detailed descriptions and comparisons between the current and future layouts. Enhance coherence by using clearer transitions and separating ideas into distinct paragraphs. Additionally, work on improving vocabulary choices to ensure they are more formal and precise for an academic task. Practice complex grammatical structures to enrich the response further and reduce errors.
