Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two diagram illustrates the site of an airport of today and how it will look after its transformation next year.

Overall, the airport will go under a massive redevelopment. The noticeable change will be the expansion of gates. Bag drop, atm, sky train and car hire facilities will be added in the future.

Now, the gates of an airport is small, however, it will be expanded in the future from 1-8 gates to 1-78 gates. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the expansion of gates and the addition of new facilities. However, the description of the changes is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention the gates will expand from 1-8 to 1-78, this is a significant detail that requires careful presentation. The summary is generally accurate, but some comparisons are slightly underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you group information more logically—for example, by distinguishing between structural changes (gates, walkways) and new service facilities (ATM, car hire) to provide a more cohesive report of the transformation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the general overview to specific sections of the airport. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'there will be'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing locations like 'near the door side of departures'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother would enhance the flow of the report. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the changes to the airport clearly. You use relevant terms such as 'redevelopment', 'facilities', and 'transformation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the two diagram illustrates' (should be plural) and 'the replacement of walkway'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to spatial changes, such as 'relocated', 'extended', 'integrated', or 'converted'. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'The two diagram illustrates' and 'the gates of an airport is small'. Additionally, there are missing articles and awkward phrasing, such as 'cafe will also moved'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently when describing future changes.
