The plans below show the site of an airport now and how it will look after redevelopment next year.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The two maps illustrate the changes that will take place at an airport between the present and the proposed development.
Overall, it is clear that the airport will undergo significant development, with a flyover being added above the terminal building and several new facilities being introduced, such as an ATM and bag-drop facilities. However, the main terminal building will remain in its original position.
At present, the coffee shop is located on the right-hand side of the departure building, while the car park is situated on the left-hand side of the departure area. After the development, the coffee shop will be relocated to the arrivals area, whereas the car park will be moved to the right-hand side of the arrivals building. In addition, a flyover will be constructed above the airport building.
Turning to the southern area, a walkway is currently present. However, after the development, it will be removed. Meanwhile, several new facilities will be added to the southern side, including an ATM, a Skytrain station and car-hire facilities. In contrast, the passport control and customs area will remain unchanged.
