Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes between the current and future airport layouts. However, the description is fragmented and lacks a clear, logical overview of the main trends. While you mention the addition of facilities like the 'sky train' and the increase in gates, the spatial relationships are difficult to follow due to imprecise language (e.g., 'straight way in Departure'). The report fails to effectively compare the two maps, instead listing features in a disjointed manner. To improve, focus on grouping information logically—such as describing the terminal building, the transport links, and the gate expansion separately—and ensure the overview clearly highlights the most significant changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphing is inconsistent, and the progression of ideas is difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. For example, the transition between the current layout and the future plan is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'subsequently' to guide the reader. Additionally, ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one paragraph for the current layout and another for the proposed developments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'add,' 'new,' and 'extended.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'southwest airport place' instead of 'the layout of Southwest Airport' and 'customers' when referring to the airport facilities. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the clarity of the description. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise terminology related to maps and diagrams, such as 'relocated,' 'expanded,' 'constructed,' or 'situated,' and focus on using accurate collocations to describe the layout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'airport present layout are'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to parse. For instance, 'When enter the arrival gate there is on a passport control customers' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using articles correctly. Practicing complex sentences with relative clauses or passive voice would also help improve your range.
