Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps compare the layouts of an airport today and how it will look after reconstruction next year.
Overall, the southwest airport is planned to undergo significant changes with more facilities and amenities added next year. Today the airport has a more conventional structure but it will have more modern inclusion after the renovation.
Today, the airport has eight gates and two walkways on the top of the layout. Below that, on the left side, security passport control room is located and on the right side, the passport control customs can be noticed. In the departures side, check-in facility is situated on the left and a cafe is included, whereas the arrivals room do not have any facilities
On the other hand, the airport is set to establish 18 gates and sky trains instead of walkways post redevelopment. Moreover, shops will be added for passengers. However, the security passport control room and passport control customs will remain in the original spots. In the departures room, cafe and check-in will change their places and a bag drop facility will be added. The arrivals side will include a car park on the bottom right corner. Additionally, a cafe and an ATM booth will be built.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the airport layout and provided a clear comparison between the current and future states. You covered the key changes, such as the increase in gates, the introduction of sky trains, and the addition of new facilities like the bag drop and car park. However, the report could be improved by being more precise with spatial descriptions. For instance, stating 'on the top of the layout' is vague; using directional language like 'in the northern section' would be more professional. Additionally, ensure you clearly distinguish between the departure and arrival areas throughout the description to avoid ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the current and future layouts respectively. You used some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that the transition between the description of the current layout and the future layout is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct timeframes.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'reconstruction', 'amenities', and 'redevelopment'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'modern inclusion' (which is not a standard collocation) and 'passport control customs' (which is slightly redundant). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for airport facilities and ensure that your collocations sound natural. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated, topic-specific lexis would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the arrivals room do not have' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'cafe and check-in will change their places' (missing articles). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'on the top of the layout'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the consistent use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
