Student answer (Band 6.0)

The layouts of the site of an airport illustrate the appearance now and how it will look after reconstruction in later year.

Overall, the design of the area of an airport will undergo significant development, with several new services will be added, including bag drop, ATM, sky train and car hire services. The positions of cafe and check-in point will be changed in departures room and the cafe service will be available in arrival room.

At present, there is only one entry door for departures in the airport. After, there is check-in point on the western side of this, whereas cafe area is located on the opposite side of check-in point. Above these both, the security and passport control are located. On the northern side, there is also walkway, with platform numbers from 1 to 8. Moreover, there is also solely one door for arrivals and ahead the passport control and custom are located.

Under the proposed plan, there will be two entry doors for departures in the airport. Similarly, arrivals gate will be expanded from one to two. In departures area, bag drop facilities will be added, while the cafe will be moved to the bottom-left corner of the room and this cafe will be replaced by check- in area. Above the security and passport control, new shops will be constructed. Furthermore, new sky train services will be provided at the airport instead of walkway, with platform will be increased from 1 to 18. Moreover. A new ATM will be installed in the arrivals site and cafe facility will be added. The car-hire service will be incorporated in arrivals of the airport site.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the airport redevelopment, including the changes to entry points, the relocation of facilities, and the addition of new services. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the expansion of the departures and arrivals areas. However, the description of the layout is occasionally confusing, particularly when describing the 'bottom-left corner' or 'above these both', which makes it difficult for the reader to visualize the map without looking at it. To reach a higher band, ensure that spatial relationships are described with greater precision and clarity, perhaps by using more formal directional language.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing the current and future states. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas', 'similarly', and 'furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Above these both' or 'Moreover. A new ATM...'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making the progression of information feel a bit disjointed in places. Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'reconstruction', 'incorporate', and 'facilities'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'solely one door' instead of 'only one door' or 'arrivals site' instead of 'arrivals area'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to map descriptions and ensure that your vocabulary choices are consistently appropriate for a formal report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'several new services will be added' (should be 'would be added' or 'are to be added' for future plans), 'with platform will be increased' (should be 'with the number of platforms increasing'), and 'in later year' (should be 'in the coming year'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositions. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage for future projections.
