Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The diagrams depict the existing layout of an airport and the planned layout following its renovation, which is scheduled to take place next year.
Overall, it is crystal clear that the airport is set to undergo significant expansion, including the introduction of new facilities and an increase in the number of gates. Major improvements will be seen in both the departure and arrival areas, with additional services and transportation options being incorporated.
At a fleeting glance, in the departures area, several changes will be implemented. The number of exit doors will be doubled, and the existing cafe and check-in counters will be relocated to make space for bag drop facility. Additionally, new shops will be added adjacent to the passport control office, while shopping centers will be introduced along the passage leading to the gates. A significant plan has made in increasing the number of gates from 8 to 18.
Moving further, the arrivals area on the left-hand side of the airport will also see substantial changes. The current walkway will be replaced by a sky train, and there will be an increase in the number of entrance pathways. Moreover, a cafe, ATM center, and car hire services will be introduced next to the customs control section, providing more facilities for arriving passengers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the airport redevelopment. You have successfully identified key changes, such as the expansion of gates and the introduction of new facilities like the sky train and car hire services. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully supported by the data; for instance, while you mention the increase in gates, you could explicitly contrast the specific locations of the new shops or the layout of the arrival area more precisely to demonstrate a deeper analysis of the spatial changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by area (departures and arrivals). Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moving further', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the airport. The response maintains a consistent focus throughout, and the relationship between the existing and future plans is clearly established.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'relocated', 'incorporated', and 'substantial'. The language is generally precise and appropriate for an academic report. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To improve further, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items related to urban planning or infrastructure to elevate the tone. For example, instead of 'make space for', you could use 'accommodate' or 'facilitate the installation of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the control of grammar is generally strong. There is a minor error in the sentence 'A significant plan has made in increasing...', which should be 'A significant plan has been made to increase...'. Additionally, ensure consistent use of articles and prepositions. Despite these minor slips, the grammatical accuracy is high, and the structures used are sufficient to convey complex information clearly and accurately.
