Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram outlines the plan for redevelopment of southwest Airport in the next year and compare its look with the present.
Overall, after development airport looks more bigger and well organized and develop with some new facilities, while some exciting area such as security and passport control customs remained undeveloped.
At present, airport have one departure gate, one arrivals gate, 8 boarding gates, a cafe, a check in centre and a security room. After the development, airport will have 18 boarding gates. Initially, people need to go by walkway through one gates to another, but in the new plan a sky train is introduced between the gates. A striking illustration of the data is that security and customs, passport control and passport control customs areas remained unchanged.
Furthermore, ATM and a car hire is introduced at departure area in the right side of the airport, while a
cafe is relocated from upper right side to top
lower left side ,and a new
cafe is built at arrivals
side area. The interesting fact is that check
in area is relocated to right side to make a
space for bag drop.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the airport redevelopment, including the increase in boarding gates, the addition of the sky train, and the relocation of facilities. However, the overview is slightly weak; it uses informal language like 'more bigger' and 'well organized', which does not accurately reflect the data-driven nature of the task. While the key changes are identified, the description of the 'unchanged' areas is repetitive (mentioning 'passport control' twice in one sentence). To improve, ensure the overview focuses on the most significant trends, such as the overall expansion and modernization, rather than subjective descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the general overview to specific changes. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'At present', and 'After the development' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For instance, the transition between the discussion of the sky train and the unchanged areas is somewhat abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'the former') is used more precisely would enhance the overall cohesion of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and informal phrasing. Phrases like 'more bigger' are grammatically incorrect and lexically imprecise. The repetition of 'passport control' and 'cafe' suggests a limited range of synonyms. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise terminology related to maps and plans, such as 'expanded', 'relocated', 'remained unchanged', or 'underwent renovation'. Avoid subjective adjectives like 'interesting' or 'striking', as these are not appropriate for an objective report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'airport have', 'ATM and a car hire is introduced') and incorrect comparative forms ('more bigger'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and spacing. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant phrasing will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
