Student answer (Band 5.0)

This diagram illustrates the comparison between the two southwest airports. The one airport which has less facilities and after redevelopment will contain many facilities style.

Before the development the airport had only 8 gates and that was very difficult for the departures and arrivals. After redevelopment there will be a 10% increase in the number of gates. Now people just walk to go where they want, After the development there eill be the sky train facility to go from one place to another and that makes easier for the people.

Now the airport has no ATM and bag drop, causing the significant problem there, so when they redevelop the airport, both things must be available.

Now there is only one cafe in the departure lounge, but having the large number of majority there to purchase the things. After the development there will be the cafes either in the departure or in arrival line too.

Now airport giving the local vibes that we not even hire the car there, people having a lot of luggage and due to this they facing the problem that how they managed it. so, that's why after the development, there will be the car hire facility too. The redevelopment airport became advanced and enhances their structure too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarise the changes between the current and future layouts of Southwest Airport, noting the expansion of gates, the introduction of a sky train, additional cafes, and car hire facilities. However, the response falls short of fully satisfying the task requirements. The overview lacks clarity and fails to adequately synthesise the main overall trends, such as the major structural expansion from a single concourse to a Y-shaped terminal with two angled arms. Furthermore, some of the data interpretation is imprecise or speculative, such as calculating a '10% increase' in gates (rising from 1 to 8 in the old plan to 18 in the new plan represents a much larger increase). The tone is also somewhat overly conversational and subjective ('causing the significant problem there'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is arranged into distinct paragraphs, attempting to group ideas by facility types such as gates, transport, amenities, and parking. However, the overall progression is disjointed, and the cohesive devices used are often repetitive, mechanical, or inaccurate (e.g., 'The one airport', 'Before the development... After redevelopment...', 'Now... After the development...'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical links between sentences break down, making the flow somewhat choppy and difficult to follow in places. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better transitional phrases and smoother integration of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic vocabulary and direct repetition of terms from the prompt, such as 'redevelopment', 'airport', 'gates', and 'cafe'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'less facilities', 'facilities style', 'majority there', and 'giving the local vibes'. Some attempts at less common vocabulary result in unnatural phrasing that affects the precision of the description. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the overall lexical control sits at a modest level due to frequent inaccuracies and lack of sophisticated phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complexity are frequently flawed by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and sentence fragments, such as 'After redevelopment there will be a 10% increase', 'After the development there eill be the sky train facility', and 'people having a lot of luggage and due to this they facing the problem that how they managed it'. Punctuation is basic, and run-on sentences or awkward clauses frequently disrupt the reading experience, though meaning is usually still retrievable.
