Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarise the main features of the airport plans before and after redevelopment, noting the expansion in the number of gates from 8 to 18, the addition of a sky train, and new amenities like shops, a bag drop, and car hire. However, the response fails to reach the 150-word minimum, clocking in at only 139 words, which results in a penalty for under-length. Furthermore, the description is somewhat disjointed and misses several important spatial relationships and key layout changes, leading to an under-developed overview. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds the threshold and provide a more comprehensive, structured comparison of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text lacks clear paragraphing and breaks down near the end, finishing abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('we have seen upgraded version of airport with'). Although basic transition words like 'meanwhile' and 'after renovation' are used, the logical progression is hindered by dense, run-on sentences that combine multiple distinct spatial observations. Cohesive devices are mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison smoothly. Paragraph structure needs to be established properly, separating the introduction, overview, and specific body details into distinct sections.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive ('current structure', 'future renovation structure', 'upgrate massive infrastructure'). There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'driect' for direct, 'upgrate' for upgrade, 'Intially' for initially, 'arae' for area, 'instent' for instead, 'passort' for passport, and 'accept' for except. While the writer attempts some task-specific terminology like 'passport control', 'customs', and 'departure area', the frequent lexical and spelling inaccuracies restrict the score to this band, as they occasionally cause confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly connected compound sentences. There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and syntax (e.g., lowercase 'we', missing commas, and incomplete sentence fragments at the very end of the text). Complex structures are attempted with prepositions and conjunctions, but they are often faulty or tangled ('after renovation we have seen 18 gates with sky train instent of walkway and on departure side they included along cafe...'). These persistent grammatical inaccuracies impact readability.
