Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by describing the main changes shown in the airport maps, noting alterations to the gates, check-in, and the addition of a sky train and amenities. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in reading the visual data; for example, stating that the check-in facility in the old structure will be moved to the right side when it actually moves inward/central in the new layout, and misinterpreting elements of the departures and arrivals zones. Furthermore, the overview is rather fragmented rather than presenting a cohesive summary of the major developmental trends. Consequently, the response meets the minimum word count but falls short of fully and accurately covering all key features of the prompt, aligning best with a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overall concluding paragraph, which provides a basic organisational structure. However, paragraphing is poorly executed, with sentences run together and missing necessary breaks. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward, such as 'To begin with departures side' and 'On the other hand from arrival side', which do not function smoothly as transition markers. The progression of ideas lacks fluidity, making the relationships between the spatial changes somewhat difficult to follow. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, featuring frequent misspellings and inaccurate word choices such as 'give images', 'apperence', 'reinnovation', and 'stucture'. There is an attempt to use some task-related terms like 'amenities', 'gates', and 'sky train', but the range is limited and minimally adequate for the prompt. Word formation and collocation errors, such as 'taxi hiring spot' instead of 'car hire', impede clarity in places. This demonstrates lexical performance consistent with a Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and occasional faulty attempts at complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions, incorrect verb tenses ('the cafe will constructed'), and punctuation omissions (such as a missing full stop in the first sentence). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also problematic. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader, the grammar performance reflects a Band 5.0 level.
