Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview of the current layout of Southwest Airport and the proposed redevelopment plans for the future. The student selects and reports the main features, such as the increase in the number of gates from 8 to 18, the addition of a sky train, and the relocation of amenities like the check-in counters, cafes, and shops. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies; for example, the text mentions that passengers currently have to walk to reach custom and passport control areas, whereas the visual data shows passport control and customs located within the terminal block. The overview captures the main trends well, noting modernization and passenger-friendly upgrades, which allows the response to meet the criteria for the higher band while retaining a few minor omissions characteristic of the lower band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs detailing the current layout and the future changes respectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, present state, and future plans. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with occasional referencing issues such as the abrupt transition between sentences in the second paragraph and minor issues with cohesive device selection. While the relationships between ideas are generally clear, the lack of smoother transitional links prevents the response from achieving a higher band in this category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'redeveloped', 'modernized', and 'relocated'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including typos such as 'turend', 'enterance', 'Passngers', and 'favcility', alongside awkward word choices like 'car hires'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because the control over less common vocabulary and spelling lacks precision and consistency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and future tense constructions. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('airport will undergo', 'current layout of airport', 'at departure section'), subject-verb agreement issues ('number of gates will be increases'), and capitalization errors. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede communication. The control over complex structures is somewhat limited, and the presence of frequent minor errors places the response securely within this band.
