Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features of the airport maps while leaving others unclear or underdeveloped. The writer attempts to compare the current layout with the future development, noting general changes such as the addition of a sky train, shops, and new facilities like an ATM and car hire. However, the description of specific features is often confused and vague, such as stating that 'its total area with respect to numbers is 1 to' or mentioning '2 departure and 2 arrival gates for immigrants'. While an overview is attempted in the introduction, the lack of precise reporting and the inclusion of confusing or inaccurate spatial details prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation to the response, with paragraphs dividing the introduction, general description, present layout, and future plans. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, leading to mechanical transitions, such as starting paragraphs with 'By examining both plans' or 'According to present structure'. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping related information together is inconsistent, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common terms related to the maps, such as 'reconstruction', 'facilities', and 'immigrants', but these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately, as seen in phrases like 'major changing will occur' or 'roof is consists on'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'departure,s right corner side' and 'specially build', which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions or faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is major changing', 'there will cafe'), missing articles ('on top of building'), incorrect verb forms ('shops will build'), and preposition usage ('on the left side' versus spatial prepositions). These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
