Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main features of the airport's current layout and comparing them with the proposed redevelopment plans. An overview is provided, noting key changes such as the expansion of gates and the relocation of amenities. However, some aspects of the response remain under-developed; for instance, specific details regarding the new Y-shaped concourse or the exact positioning of the sky train and shops are not fully expanded upon. The student covers the necessary visual data adequately, ensuring that the comparison between the 'now' and 'after' layouts is clear, which satisfies the requirements for this band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introduction to an overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing the gates and other facilities. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different features of the map. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, relying on transitional phrases like 'Looking first at' and 'Turning to other facilities' in a predictable manner. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of more varied cohesive devices prevents the text from reaching a higher band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'redevelopment', 'relocation', and 'facilities'. There are, however, several word choice and word formation inaccuracies, such as 'significant development' instead of 'developments', 'security passport control and passport control custom' where terms are slightly confused, and missing articles or prepositions in phrases like 'on arrivals section'. Spelling is generally correct, and while these lexical errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The maps illustrate the layout of the airport how it looks now...'. There are frequent errors in grammar, including tense usage ('how it will be look after redevelopment'), missing articles ('number of gates', 'bag drop service will introduced'), and prepositional errors ('on left corner'). Punctuation and sentence structures show some control, but errors occur with enough frequency to keep the score at this level, occasionally requiring the reader to slow down.
