Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to compare the current and future layout of Southwest Airport, but the information is often confusing and lacks clear selection of the main features. While the student correctly mentions the expansion of the gates from 8 to 18 and the addition of features like shops, bag drop, and car hire, the overall account is disjointed. Some key spatial details are inaccurate or under-developed, such as stating that 'passengers will use running stairs for departures and arrivals', which misinterprets the sky train feature. To move up, the response needs a more coherent selection of key features supported by precise reporting without unnecessary or inaccurate details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation attempted through transitional phrases like 'Overall' and 'On the other hand', but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is weak, with the response collapsing multiple distinct ideas into dense, poorly structured blocks instead of separating the overview, current layout, and future changes logically. Cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing within sentences is often unclear, such as abrupt shifts between describing the departures and arrivals sections. To improve, the student must group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use cohesive devices more accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The response relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms and experiences frequent issues with word choice, word formation, and spelling, such as 'reconstrcution', 'depratures', and 'gsates'. While there are some attempts to use task-specific vocabulary like 'customs', 'passport control', and 'bag drop', inaccurate collocations and lexical errors appear throughout the text, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and eliminate basic spelling and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including incorrect verb tenses ('after it will look redevelopment'), missing articles, awkward prepositions ('in go for', 'in these days airpot only total 8 counter gsates'), and poor subject-verb agreement. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and impede comprehension. To improve, the student must work on basic sentence construction, ensure accurate tense usage for describing future changes, and master fundamental grammar patterns such as articles and prepositions.
