Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to outline the main features of the airport plans before and after redevelopment. However, the description is somewhat restricted and parts of the information are under-developed or unclear. For instance, the transition from the present layout to the future Y-shaped concourse and the addition of the sky trains and baggage drop are mentioned, but the relationships between the features are not always clearly reported. While an overview is attempted, it is awkwardly phrased ('here are stages of airports which looks distincts to each other'). To reach a higher level, the response needs to provide a more fully developed, comprehensive overview and clearer selection of key data comparisons, avoiding vague or partial descriptions of spatial changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text shows some overall organisation with basic attempts to sequence information between the present and future layouts. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the paragraphing and structure feel disjointed and repetitive. Sentences are strung together rather than logically linked, and cohesive devices are inadequate or overused, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'in the present' / 'in the future'. Paragraph breaks do not effectively separate distinct themes or stages of the comparison. To improve coherence, the writing would benefit from a more logical flow of ideas, better paragraph divisions, and a wider range of appropriate cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial changes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'hoiw' for 'how', 'Overal' for 'Overall', 'noticeble' for 'noticeable', and 'cofe' for 'cafe'. The student also uses inappropriate word forms or collocations, such as 'pathing area' and 'care hire area'. Although there is an attempt to use task-relevant terms like 'departures', 'arrivals', 'check-in', and 'passport control', the restricted range and frequent lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar is characterised by a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. The response relies heavily on simple, repetitive sentence patterns, and attempts at more complex or descriptive sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence ('The plan illustrates that in the south side an airport now and hoiw it will look after the refurbishment in next year'). There are persistent errors in articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after periods and commas, and awkward phrasing like 'here are stages of airports'). To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures with significantly improved accuracy and control over basic sentence mechanics.
