Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially by attempting to describe the changes between the current and future airport layouts, such as the extension of the gates and new facilities like bag drop and car hire. However, the information is presented in a mechanical, descriptive list rather than as a well-structured summary with clear comparisons. Furthermore, the selection of features lacks precision, and the description of spatial relationships is often vague or confusing, such as describing features as being 'in the back side' or 'below from departures'. The overview provided in the final sentence is extremely brief and subjective, stating that the building will look 'beautifull and mor workable', rather than highlighting the main overarching trends of the redevelopment. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to select and report the most salient features systematically, make meaningful comparisons, and provide a clear, objective overview of the primary transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, with an introductory sentence, two body paragraphs detailing the before and after states, and a concluding sentence. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the sequencing of ideas feels disjointed. The writer relies heavily on rudimentary and repetitive spoken-style transitions such as 'Fiestly, we talk about now' and 'Secondly, we talk about the reconstruction', which creates a conversational rather than academic tone. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and inaccurately, and referencing between clauses is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the airport. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs is weak. To improve, the writer should employ standard academic transitional phrases, group related information logically, and ensure that referencing pronouns clearly link back to their antecedents without conversational intrusions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with heavy reliance on simple words and direct repetition of terms from the prompt such as 'departures', 'check-in', and 'gates'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices throughout the text, including severe spelling mistakes like 'illestrates', 'reduild', 'Fiestly', 'pasport', 'costoms', 'ariffs', 'modifaction', 'shopes', and 'redomify'. These errors, combined with non-standard phrases like 'mor workable' and 'add one new thing', cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. To move up to a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range to include more precise, topic-specific terms for describing maps and spatial changes, learn correct spellings of common lexical items, and avoid conversational phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed compound sentences. Attempts at complex structures are largely faulty, resulting in run-on sentences and massive grammatical disruptions, such as 'whereas, in the back side of the building had walkway and 1 to 8 gates' and 'There had departure in the left side same as the old but their had some changes'. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and article usage, such as omitting necessary articles and misusing existential 'there had' instead of 'there is' or 'there was'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on clauses lacking proper separation. These frequent errors persistently strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the writer needs to work on basic sentence construction, ensure correct verb forms and tense consistency, and eliminate frequent structural errors.
