Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SOUTHWEST AIRPORT
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart illutrates the developments that will take place next year at Southwest Airport. Many additional developments are planned in order to provide better facilities to the passengers.
New developments are being taken place in the airport such as addition of 10 new gates, cafes, ATM, car hire etc. Passengers will be provided with sky train to travel instead of Walkway.
The Southwest Airport currently has 8 gates, after development additional 10 gates will be added along with sky train facility where passengers can commute from one gate to another. New shops will be opened inside the airport. Currently, the security passport control has a cafe and a check-in counter while after redevelopment a baggage drop counter will be added. After development a cafe, an ATM and a car hire facility is planned in the Passport control customs. The airport now has one departure and one arrival gate while after development two departure and arrival gates are planned for the ease of the passengers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change in capacity, noting that the airport will gain ten gates, and you mention several new facilities, including shops, a sky train, an ATM and car hire. This gives the reader a relevant summary of the redevelopment. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the café and check-in are not currently in the security/passport-control area, and the plan does not show two departure and arrival gates. The café, ATM and car hire are added in Arrivals, rather than in “Passport control customs” as a single area. The response also gives limited attention to the changed layout, especially the Y-shaped concourse and the relocated check-in. A more precise overview and clearer location comparisons would develop the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a brief summary of new facilities, and a paragraph with further comparisons. The information is generally relevant and can be followed. However, progression is not consistently clear because the second paragraph repeats points that appear again in the final paragraph, such as the new gates and sky train. The repeated use of “after development” also makes the links mechanical, while “currently” and “while” do not always clarify which areas are being compared. Grouping the changes by the terminal, concourse and arrivals area would create a clearer sequence. Use more precise referencing and vary comparison links so each paragraph adds distinct information.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of task-related vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “additional,” “commute,” “facility” and “passengers,” and the main meaning is usually clear. Some choices are imprecise or do not fit the map: “departure and arrival gate” refers to terminal areas rather than individual gates, and “in the Passport control customs” is an unclear description of the arrivals area. “Baggage drop counter” is understandable, though “bag drop” is the label shown. There is also a spelling error in “illutrates.” To improve, choose location and facility terms that match the plan, and avoid broad phrases such as “better facilities” when you can name the specific changes. More precise collocations would make the description more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple sentences and some more developed structures, such as “The Southwest Airport currently has 8 gates, after development additional 10 gates will be added…” and the contrast introduced by “while.” The intended meaning is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and verb forms need more control. In the first sentence, “developments that will take place” is appropriate, but “New developments are being taken place” is not a correct passive construction; use “New developments are planned” or “are taking place.” The long sentence beginning “The Southwest Airport currently has 8 gates” joins two clauses with a comma and would be clearer as separate sentences or with a conjunction. Check articles and phrasing in “a cafe, an ATM and a car hire facility is planned,” where the plural subject requires “are planned.”
