Student answer (Band 6.0)

The map illustrates the alterations in the site of an airport of its before and after redevelopment next year.

Overall, it is clear that the area underwent significant redevelopment, with several new facilities being introduced and existing structures being replaced or modernised.

To begin with, in the north part of an airport, there are two pedestrians roads currently but there likely be a railyway station and the area will be expanded. In addition, there is an ample space availble besides the security passport control while shops will constructed after the rennovation. Several modications will also made to the departures and arrivals areas, including the addition of money exchange, canteen and other facilities.

Moving further, in the bottom left-area several facilities has been added. Including a Bag drop, an ATM, Sky train, Car hire. The gate has been expanded. However, the check-in area, cafe, walkway and one to eight gates remained unchanged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the broad change from the current airport to a redeveloped one, and your overview correctly notes that new facilities will be introduced. You also mention shops, bag drop, the sky train, car hire and the expanded gates. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: the current plan shows a single walkway, not “two pedestrians roads”; the sky train is not a railway station; and the check-in, café and gates do not all remain unchanged. Check-in moves to the inner wall, the café changes position and another is added, while the gates increase from 8 to 18. The “money exchange” is an ATM, and the main changes to arrivals need clearer description. Prioritise these comparisons and describe locations accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overall statement and two body paragraphs. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moving further” help signal progression, and the reader can follow the general topic. However, the organisation does not consistently guide the reader through the plans: the first body paragraph mixes northern concourse changes with terminal facilities, while the second begins with “bottom left-area” but then lists features from different parts of the airport. The contrast between the current and future layouts would be clearer if each paragraph grouped related areas and explicitly compared before and after. Some linking, especially “However,” does not accurately signal the relationship between the listed features.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “facilities,” “security passport control,” “Bag drop” and “expanded.” These choices show an attempt to describe a map rather than relying only on basic words. Some wording is imprecise or unnatural, however: “pedestrians roads” does not describe the walkway, “railway station” is not the same as the sky train shown, and “money exchange” misidentifies the ATM. There are also spelling errors such as “availble,” “rennovation” and “modications,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling; for example, use “concourse” or “walkway” for the airport passage and “additional facilities” when summarising new amenities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause “with several new facilities being introduced” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles are noticeable. For example, “there likely be” needs a modal construction such as “there will likely be,” while “shops will constructed” requires “will be constructed.” In “several facilities has been added,” the plural subject requires “have,” and “Including a Bag drop…” is an incomplete sentence. The opening phrase “the site of an airport of its before and after redevelopment” is also difficult to parse. Use complete sentences and check each clause for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
