Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You give a clear overview of the main change: the airport is expanded and gains more passenger facilities, including a larger gate area and a sky train. You also cover both the departures and arrivals sections and identify several changes, such as the relocated check-in, new bag drop, café, ATM and car hire. This addresses the task and gives a generally accurate account. However, some details are over-generalised or inaccurate: the entrances are not described as being widened or supplemented with extra doors in the plan, and saying the gates will be doubled is imprecise—the number rises from 8 to 18. The shops’ position and the Y-shaped concourse could also be described more clearly to make the key spatial changes fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph on the current airport and one on the redevelopment. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “At present” and “After redevelopment” help signal the stages. The organisation is coherent, but cohesion is not always smooth. “While” and “Whereas” are used as sentence openings without a clear contrasting clause, and “After” in “After, the security…” is an awkward link. Some references, such as “both the side on left and right side,” are difficult to interpret. To strengthen progression, group changes by area and use linking expressions that clearly show location or contrast, rather than repeating broad transition phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant airport vocabulary, including “departures,” “arrivals,” “passport control,” “customs,” “bag drop” and “car hire,” so the reader can understand the main subject and many changes. There is also some attempt at more specific language, such as “relocated” and “constructed.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “illusrates,” “desgin,” “passangers,” “passpot” and “redevlopment.” Some phrases are unnatural, including “built small,” “very few arrangement” and “completed with the security check-in.” Aim for accurate collocations and use precise spatial vocabulary, such as “located beside,” “moved to” and “extended into a Y-shaped concourse.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “After” and “While,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “the airport is built small” has an incorrect structure, while “both the side on left and right side there one entrances” lacks clear agreement and sentence structure. There are also problems with articles, plurals and verb forms, as in “a cafe and a ticket check-in counter” followed by “there is nothing,” and “the gates will be doubled to reduced.” Practise building complete comparison sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms.
