Student answer (Band 6.0)

The plans illustrate the site of an airport at present and how it would look after reconfiguration the following year.

The airport will be totally revitalized by adding many more amenities to the site such as cafes, atm, cab service.Massive expansion will be done by adding more gates and a smooth flow by providing a service of sky train.

Firstly, there is a single entrance of the departure and arrival terminal seperately. The current plan has no proper space allocated for luggage drop. One cafe in whole airport, just near to the check-in area. After passing through passport control and security check there is a walkway that leads to the 8 boarding gates.

The development plan includes creating a smooth flow by adding double entrances to both the terminals.A cafe just beside the entrance to departure terminal and another one in the arrival terminal right after passing through customs.Seperate area for bag drop and a checkin counter on its right corner.Shops have been added for a better passenger experience after security check.A major change would be 18 gates ,connected by a sky train. One more addition includes an atm and a cab serive added to the arrival terminal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation clearly: the concourse expands from eight to eighteen gates, a sky train is introduced, and new passenger facilities are added. You also compare the present and future layouts, including the café, bag drop, shops, ATM and car hire, so the response covers the task well. This is reflected in the accurate overall picture, though some details are less fully or precisely reported. For example, the current café is described as near check-in, whereas it is on the right side before security and passport control; the future check-in is on the inner wall beside Arrivals, not simply “on its right corner.” The claim that both terminals gain double entrances is not supported by the plan. More precise location descriptions and a clearer overview of the Y-shaped concourse would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable progression: an opening statement, a summary of the major changes, a description of the current layout, and then the redevelopment plan. “Firstly” and “The development plan” help signal the shift between stages, and the reader can generally follow the comparison. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are compressed into fragments, such as “One cafe in whole airport” and “A major change would be 18 gates.” The second paragraph also repeats the idea of improved flow without clearly linking it to the specific layout. Grouping details by terminal and then describing the concourse would create a more consistent progression. Use complete sentences and clearer references to locations so that each feature connects naturally to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing redevelopment, including “amenities,” “allocated,” “boarding gates,” “customs,” and “connected by a sky train.” These choices communicate the main changes, and some less common terms show an attempt to be precise. However, several expressions are imprecise or informal for a map report: “cab service” is less suitable than “car hire,” while “totally revitalized” and “smooth flow” are broad evaluations rather than neutral descriptions. There are also spelling and form errors, including “seperately,” “Seperate,” “serive,” and “checkin.” Aim for accurate facility names and location language, such as “on the western wall” or “adjacent to Arrivals,” and prefer neutral verbs such as “is added” or “is relocated.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including “After passing through passport control and security check there is a walkway…” and “A major change would be 18 gates, connected by a sky train.” The main meaning is usually understandable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or awkward. “One cafe in whole airport” lacks a verb and needs an article, while “A cafe just beside the entrance…” is also a fragment. There are some issues with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “a service of sky train” and the comma-spliced list “cafes, atm, cab service.” Use complete clauses and check tense consistency when comparing the present with the planned future. More accurate sentence construction would make the information easier to follow.
