Student answer (Band 6.0)

The blueprints demonstrate the sturcture of an airport in present and compares it to how it will look in future. Overall, the plan of next year shows that numerous facilities would be added in the future. However, several parts of the airport would remain unchanged.

Both plans of the airport suggest that the location of security, passport control and customes for both departures and arrivals would remain untouched. In contrast the walkway in the present airport would be replaceed by a sky train. In addition, the 8 gates of contemprory airport would be expanded to 18 gates next year. Furthermore, ATM, bag drop, and car hire facilities are also added in the future plan. The future map illustrates that unlike sontemprory airport, in future both arrivals and departures sides will have a ca

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change in capacity, noting that the airport expands from 8 to 18 gates, and you mention several new facilities. The overview also recognises that some features remain unchanged. However, the comparison is incomplete and includes a significant misreading: security and passport control are not described as remaining in the same locations, and customs is shown in Arrivals rather than serving both departures and arrivals. The response ends mid-sentence (“both arrivals and departures sides will have a ca…”), leaving the café comparison unfinished, and important changes such as the Y-shaped concourse and shops are omitted. The response is also 17 words below the required minimum. Develop the overview and report the main changes accurately and completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an opening overview is followed by a paragraph comparing features, and linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. This gives the information a coherent basic progression. However, the second paragraph becomes a list of changes rather than a clearly organised comparison of the terminal, concourse and added facilities. The final sentence is cut off, so the ending feels abrupt and the café point is not completed. Some linking is also mechanical, with several transitions introducing separate items without explaining how they relate. Grouping changes by area and completing the final comparison would make the progression clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “blueprints,” “facilities,” “expanded,” and “remain unchanged,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. There are, however, several spelling errors, including “sturcture,” “customes,” “replaceed,” and “contemprory,” which reduce accuracy. Some word choices are also imprecise: “the location of security, passport control and customs … remain untouched” does not accurately describe the map, while “the 8 gates … would be expanded to 18 gates” is less natural than saying the number of gates increases. The unfinished phrase “will have a ca” further limits clarity. Check spelling carefully and use precise language for locations and changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex overview with “However” and a comparison introduced by “In contrast.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “demonstrate the structure … and compares it” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “would be replaceed” uses an incorrect verb form. The phrase “in present” is missing an article, while “both arrivals and departures sides” has an awkward plural construction. The final sentence is incomplete, so it does not demonstrate a controlled sentence ending. Practise accurate agreement, articles and passive forms, and proofread each sentence to ensure it is complete.
