Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given layouts illlustrates the present condition of an airport and its future structure after redevelopment next year.
Overall, 10 gates will be added with the addition of several amenities like ATM, bag drop, car hire and the replacement of walkaway by sky train.
At present, there is one entrance for departures with check-in and cafe inside and also only one way for arrivals. Security and passport control is in the left side and customs and another passport control is in right side. Finally there are total8 gates.
In the next year year after redevelopment, security, two passport controls and customs will remain in the same location. However, cafe will be relocated to arrivals side and check-in will be in the location of cafe. Additionally, ATM and car hire services will be added. There will be sky train instead of walkaway. Furthermore, 10 more gates will be added with each extra entering and exiting points

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the terminal expands from eight gates to eighteen, and new facilities such as an ATM, bag drop, car hire and a sky train are introduced. The overview also recognises the replacement of the walkway and the addition of amenities. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Security and passport control are not described as being on the left, and the statement that the café moves to Arrivals overlooks the new café in Departures as well as the café added in Arrivals. Check-in is moved to the inner wall beside Arrivals, not simply to the café’s former location. The final reference to extra “entering and exiting points” is unsupported. More precise coverage of the Y-shaped concourse and the changed terminal layout would strengthen the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the current airport and a paragraph about the redevelopment. Sequencing phrases such as “At present” and “In the next year” help distinguish the two stages, while “However” and “Additionally” signal changes. This gives the reader a coherent account. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Furthermore” and “Additionally,” and the final paragraph combines several changes without a clear spatial order. The description would progress more smoothly if it grouped changes by area—for example, first the concourse and gates, then Departures, and finally Arrivals—and used clearer references to the locations being compared.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a relevant range of map vocabulary, including “redevelopment,” “amenities,” “relocated,” “services” and “gates,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts at more specific terms, such as “entering and exiting points,” although this phrase is not a natural or accurate way to describe the airport layout. Some word choices and spelling reduce precision: “walkaway” is not the correct term for the walkway shown, and “one way for arrivals” is vague. “Present condition” and “future structure” are understandable but less natural in this context than language describing the airport’s current and planned layouts. Aim for precise location and facility terms, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the overview clause “with the addition of several amenities” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the message is understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In “The given layouts illlustrates,” the plural subject requires a plural verb, and “Security and passport control is” similarly needs plural agreement. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “there are total8 gates,” while “each extra entering and exiting points” has an unclear grammatical structure. The repeated “year” in “next year year” is another editing slip. More consistent agreement, article use and careful proofreading would make the descriptions more accurate and fluent.
