Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Karan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that I am planning a business trip to your city that is Scarborough. I would like to tell you that this is a typical business meeting in which I will meet some delegates from various companies. Therefore, the main motive behind this meeting is to enhance the number of customers.
Since this is your city and you know much about it. Therefore, I would like to ask you about the activities that I can enjoy here and if you would tell me about the sightseeing, that would be great.
Moreover, I would like to invite you to meet me as I will be free in the evenings. Also, it would be great to see you after very long and If you could be my guide throughout my tour, that would be so delightful.
Looking forward to hearing from you with a quick and positive response.
Regards,
Rishav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the purpose of the trip is explained, you ask for recommendations, and you extend an invitation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of the business trip is quite brief, and the request for sightseeing could be more specific to show a genuine interest in the destination. To reach a higher band, try to elaborate slightly more on your plans or the specific type of activities you enjoy, which would make the letter feel more natural and engaging.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraph breaks for each point. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Therefore' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as starting two consecutive sentences with 'Therefore'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more conversational, as this is a personal letter to a friend.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task and conveys your meaning clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'delightful' and 'looking forward to'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and some word choices are slightly repetitive or basic, such as 'tell me about' and 'great'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to travel and social arrangements, such as 'itinerary', 'recommendations', or 'catch up'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'after very long' (should be 'after a very long time') and 'the number of customers' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the sentence fragment 'Since this is your city and you know much about it.' which should be joined to the following sentence. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for minor errors will help improve your score.
