Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Raman,
I hope you are doing well. I am planning to make a business trip in your city of Vancouver. Actually, I will have a client meeting related to new project in your city.
I want to know about the activities that I can do during this time and suggest me the best places to visit there, and I love to explore this place. Before this if you have a time, please send me a list of best hotels to live in your locality. Because I have five days to stay.
I have a meeting just for a day with client rest of the days I am free. So, I love if you join me. By this we can spend some quality time together and memorize past days. I can also get an opportunity to meet your family.
I am eagerly waiting to meet you soon.
Your loving,
Sandeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the purpose of the trip, asking for recommendations, and inviting your friend to meet. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. To improve, you could provide slightly more detail in your explanations—for example, mentioning the specific nature of the 'new project' or suggesting a specific activity you would like to do with your friend. This would help to fully develop your ideas and move your score higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Actually', 'Before this', and 'So' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'this time', 'this place') is always clear to the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant phrases such as 'quality time' and 'eagerly waiting'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make a business trip' (should be 'take a business trip') and 'memorize past days' (which is not a standard collocation; 'reminisce about the past' would be better). Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more natural-sounding collocations would help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'in your city of Vancouver' (should be 'to your city'), 'if you have a time' (should be 'if you have time'), and 'live in your locality' (should be 'stay in your area'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and article usage errors. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
