Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained the purpose of your trip, asked for recommendations regarding sightseeing and necessary items, and extended a clear invitation to your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and personal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your situation and your intentions for the visit. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more precise; for instance, clarifying the nature of the 'business meeting' or providing more specific details about the 'reunion party' would further enhance the development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'Therefore', to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'due to my flight will next day back to my city'. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and natural to improve the overall flow. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics requested in the prompt, which helps the reader follow your message easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully conveying your meaning. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'tourist attractions', 'sightseeing', and 'reunion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'on the business company' (should be 'at the company') and 'thins' (a typo for 'things'). Additionally, phrases like 'you wasn't come' indicate a lack of control over more complex lexical structures. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are consistently accurate and appropriate for the context of a friendly letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions, such as 'you wasn't come' instead of 'you didn't come' and 'on my apartment' instead of 'at my apartment'. Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors, which occasionally impacts the clarity of your message. While your meaning is generally clear, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy. Increasing your control over these basic grammatical structures will help you achieve a higher score.
