Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: the purpose of the trip, a request for sightseeing advice, and an invitation to meet. However, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('respon'). Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement. Because the letter is unfinished and fails to meet the length constraint, the development of ideas is severely limited, preventing a higher score. To improve, ensure you complete all sections of the letter and expand on your ideas to meet the word count, such as providing more detail about the business project or suggesting specific dates for the meeting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter uses basic paragraphing, which helps to separate the different topics. However, the flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are quite limited; the letter relies on simple transitions like 'After that meeting' and 'So'. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this'). Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the letter reaches a natural conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for a personal letter but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some errors in word choice, such as 'I hope doing well' (should be 'I hope you are doing well') and 'from so long' (should be 'for so long'). The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is little attempt to use less common or idiomatic language. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and varied vocabulary related to travel and business, and pay closer attention to basic spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'i am writing this latter' (spelling: 'letter'), 'i have meeting' (missing article: 'a meeting'), and 'i really willing' (missing verb: 'am really willing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with frequent capitalization errors (e.g., 'i', 'Newyork'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and consistent capitalization. Proofreading your work for these basic errors before finishing is essential.
