Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: explaining the purpose of the trip, asking for recommendations, and inviting your friend to meet. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the closing 'Your Faithfully' is incorrect for a personal letter (it should be 'Best wishes' or 'Yours sincerely'). The ideas are relevant, but the development is slightly uneven; for example, the transition between the purpose of the trip and the invitation to the birthday party feels a bit abrupt. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I am visiting' and 'we will'. Some transitions between sentences are a bit disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the shift from school memories to the weekend plans feels sudden. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your thoughts would enhance the flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'conference', 'library', and 'restaurant'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I have not been in your contact' (should be 'in touch') and 'I will do accordingly' (should be 'I will follow your advice'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'Resturant' instead of 'restaurant'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural idiomatic expressions would help you reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am writing this letter for letting you know' (should be 'to let you know'), 'your living in Montreal' (should be 'you are living'), and 'I held in the same city' (should be 'I am holding' or 'I will hold'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of lowercase 'i' and missing commas. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.
