Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Yintex,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that I would be arriving in Ghana next week for a business trip I discussed with you early this year on phone. I would like to you to take me out have a view of some exciting places during my free time since you have been living in the for decades now.

To begin with, the main aim of visiting Ghana is to participate in the international training on sales and marketing strategy schedule for two weeks in the city of Accra.

In all honesty, I want to know some of those things I will be seeing in Ghana that would make my journey a palatable one.

I also want you to go out with me to relax and have fun together during my days which will on Friday because the training will not be taking that day.

Thanks as I lo

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: explaining the purpose of the trip, asking for recommendations, and inviting your friend to meet. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation of the business trip is clear, but the request for sightseeing suggestions is quite brief and lacks detail. Additionally, the invitation is slightly vague regarding the specific plans for Friday. To improve, try to expand on your ideas by providing more context or specific interests, which would help in achieving a higher band score by fully developing the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'In all honesty' to transition between points. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'since you have been living in the for decades now,' where a word is missing. The ending is also abrupt and incomplete, which affects the overall coherence of the letter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentences are complete would enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your purpose clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'international training' and 'sales and marketing strategy.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'palatable' to describe a journey, which is not the standard collocation in this context. There are also minor errors, such as the incomplete sentence at the end. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your word choices are precise and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I would like to you to take me out have a view' (missing 'to' and 'and') and 'the training will not be taking that day' (incorrect verb form). These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence constructions are grammatically sound.
