Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Kamal,
I hope your are doing well. I am writing to inform you that I am coming next week for five days in your city for a business trip to our new client's plant.
Company is sending me to check the production methods and the account flow of the company. After completing that I have one meeting to attend. Everything should be finished in three days. I will be left with two days which we can spend together doing sightseeing in your city.
I have searched some good placesto eat and for shopping where we can enjoy each other's company and can have some memorable time since we have not been together from a long time. I will send you the adress of my hotel and will arrange a cab also. I hope your will find this news excited.
I hope to see you soon after so long.
Best wishes,
Harpreet,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the purpose of the trip is explained, you ask for recommendations, and you invite your friend to meet. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the purpose of the trip, the explanation of 'account flow' is slightly vague. The request for things to do is also quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details or context to fully develop your ideas. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'After completing that' and 'Since we have not been together'. However, the flow between some sentences is a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the business purpose and the sightseeing plans could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing, such as the slightly repetitive structure of the sentences. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but more varied linking words would improve the cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'production methods', 'sightseeing', and 'memorable time'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'placesto' (missing space), 'adress' (spelling), and 'from a long time' (should be 'for a long time'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to detail. To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or collocations suitable for informal correspondence to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing to inform you that I am coming...' and 'I have searched some good places... where we can enjoy...'. However, there are several grammatical slips, including 'I hope your are doing well' (your/you are), 'Company is sending me' (missing article 'The'), and 'I hope your will find this news excited' (your/you; excited/exciting). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will help you achieve a higher score.
